Grumman Growler

In 1948,the Department of the Navy wanted aircraft with more performance and the ability to carry more weaponry. Grumman Aircraft developed the Dual powered Attack plane,AD 6u3, Growler. With it's Chrysler A198-200 high Altitude engine and one GE TU-606f turbine,the Growler's performance of around 580 mph at a max Altitude of 30,000ft. wasn't bad,but,it's range wasn't what the Navy liked.
The last version of the Growler was fitted with 2 bullet fuel tanks to increase it's range. Very similar to the Douglas Sky Raider,the Growler,was basically a weapon carrying match,and the latest version was fitted with a ASW system ,that could carry 2 medium ship standoff missiles. In one sense,it was ahead of it's time concerning Anti Ship weaponry. The Navy,wasn't disappointed in the effort of the Growler,but,maintenance was,the concern of having an Attack plane that may stay too long in the maintenance  bay isn't a big positive. Ha ha ha.
